About Eloain Lovis Hübner

Eloain Lovis Hübner is a composer with a particular interest in experimental sound research in the analog world, spatial and transdisciplinary formats, collaborativity and links between music practice and social, natural, technical, urban, domestic and media environments. Many of their works are in the field of artistic research or incorporate influences from the humanities, especially sociology and queer studies.
Eloain studied composition in Cologne, Dresden and Oslo and holds a Master’s degree from the Giessen Institute for Applied Theater Studies. Their collaboration with dramaturge Maria Huber and scenographer Jade Boeckh (as the performance/music theater collective the paranormal φeer group) as well as with other artists from (almost) all disciplines has led to inter/transdisciplinary productions such as The Navidson Records (Munich Biennale, Bern Theater), Orpheus Moments (Venice Biennale), Revolutions Per Minute (Gallus Theater Frankfurt), Ødipus REC. (Gare du Nord Basel, Tojo Theater Bern), Befriending Ghosts (Volksbühne, HAU4 @ Performing Arts Festival Berlin), ALICE (Espace K Strasbourg, Konzerthaus Berlin), Loss of Signal (MS Stubnitz Hamburg, Next Level Essen, BAM! Berlin 2021/22), Ja, ich bin da im Shantychor! (Schwankhalle Bremen), φeerroom (SPARK Cologne, Stimme X Hamburg), Yes! Yes! Yes! (HELLERAU), MASSEN (Kunsthalle Bielefeld, Klangwerkstatt Berlin), and many more. These include immersive sound/space concepts, an online installation, durationals, music theater for children, a theory opera in game show format, participatory formats and projects with amateurs. The opera opera, opera, opera! revenants and revolutions, composed for the Munich Biennale 2020 to an original libretto by Thomas Köck, has remained unperformed to date due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Eloain regularly collaborates with internationally renowned ensembles and soloists from numerous European countries. There are close ties to vocal music and the ensemble AuditivVokal Dresden, with whom Eloain realized three world premieres as composer in residence in 2023. In addition, the solo album production n.o.t.i.o.n.s (2023) and the live solo program Back on Stage (2024) gave rise to a unique composer-performer practice on instruments that Eloain (in the classical sense) “cannot play.”
Teaching assignments at interdisciplinary interfaces have taken Eloain to music colleges, theater academies, and TransArts programs in German-speaking countries. Eloain curated the Musik 21 Festival in Lower Saxony from 2021 to 2024 and is involved in a wide range of cultural policy activities. Awards include the Composition Prize of the State Capital of Stuttgart, the Bremen Composer’s Prize, the Deutscher Musikautor*innenpreis, the Composition Prize of the City of Homburg as well as residencies in Germany, France, the United States, and Canada. Their complete works are published exclusively by Topus Musikverlag, Berlin.
