About Eddie Harvey

Eddie Harvey was founder member of the John Dankworth Seven, working as a trombonist, arranger and composer. Over the years he has worked with, among others, the legendary Tubby Hayes, and played in the Anglo-American Big Bands of Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson. In the 1960s he became Humphrey Lyttleton’s pianist and also directed the Humphrey Lyttleton Big Band.
He qualified as a music teacher and subsequently concentrated on developing his own methodology in the teaching of jazz improvisation, and on the application of this to many different educational contexts. He has held teaching posts at the London College of Music, the Institute of Education at London University and Christchurch, Oxford. He performs with “Mingus Music” and is a member of the Music Panel of The Arts Council of Great Britain.
