About Austin Boothroyd

As a composer and editor, Austin Boothroyd endeavours to engage with and inspire live music-making among students, teachers, and established performers alike. Born in Marsden, West Yorkshire, Austin learned cornet with Marsden Silver Prize Band, and studied piano locally from the age of 9. Studies in music continued at the University of Sheffield, the Royal Northern College of Music, studying trumpet with Howard Snell, and University College London. His Masters degree studies in late sixteenth and early seventeenth century music for trumpet provided the foundation for his editions of music for baroque trumpet and harpsichord (Ten Sonatas ED 12306 und Five Capricci ED 12325 by Girolamo Fantini). As a teacher working predominantly in Germany in support of the families of British service personnel, he was involved in many musical events, ranging from school performances to high-profile military music shows. His final post in Germany was as Head of Gütersloh Music Centre. Austin continues to concentrate on music education, with compositions and editions, old and new, published by Novello and ViolaViva Musikverlag. He loves to play viola, piano, and harpsichord with chamber groups. He plays regularly with Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra, and sings as often as possible with the Philharmonischer Chor Baden-Baden.
