Description

Christian Jost is pursuing new musical paths with his Nocturnal Movements, following his passion for jazz that was occasionally visible in his earlier compositions. The work for solo piano and 13 instrumentalists, all with a dark timbre, was written for the jazz pianist Michael Wollny and members of the Berlin Philharmonic. While the ensemble part is through-composed in detail, Jost provides the soloist with space for improvisation. This produces a finely balanced alliance between contemporary music and sophisticated jazz liberated from any genre-related constrictions.
