Description
This is the third piece in an orchestral set dedicated to artists and writers that have been important to me. This one is for Philip Guston. Guston’s break with the ultra-refined paintings of his circle of associates and his adoption of an almost cartoon- like expression in some way gave me creative permission. After this I felt I was allowed to explore a very wide field of music, and also rediscover and value my own musical background. His work profoundly challenged my views on art, creativity and its place in culture. Richard Ayres
