Product Details
Description
“Invisible Cities” by the American composer Michael McNabb was created at the renowned Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. The inspiration for his project, originally created in 1985 as dance theatre, came from the novel "Le cittá invisibili" (Invisible Cities) by Italo Calvino. McNabb develops very different imaginary soundscapes of great charm, using computer and synthesizer as well as piano and soprano saxophone. He demonstrates convincingly that he knows how to skillfully walk a razor-sharp line between structures of serious music and pop-oriented sound aesthetics. Artis Wodehouse can be heard on the piano and Michael McNabb himself on the saxophone.
More than 50 composers from 13 different countries contributed to this collection of music with computers. Their pieces represent major directions of how avantgarde composers utilize the potential of new technology.
