Description

The German Music Council has been publishing its Contemporary Music Edition on the WERGO label since 1986. 100 CDs have been published until today.

The portrait CDs in this series capture the work of young composers either born or living in Germany, often giving them their first opportunity to reach a broader public at home and abroad with recordings of their music. To convey a deeper appreciation of the music and ideas to which these young artists feel attached, each CD is accompanied by introductory commentaries and analyses, a list of works, excerpts from the scores, and the texts of vocal pieces.

The EDITION ZEITGENÖSSISCHE MUSIK produces many of its CDs in cooperation with Germany's public broadcasting corporations and is funded by the Federal Commission for Culture and the Media upon a Decision of the German Bundestag.

German Music Council / Contemporary Music Edition

In its renowned Contemporary Music Edition the German Music Council set itself the task of creating a basic listening library of contemporary composition in Germany. The edition is distinguished by the high quality of the performances and of the accompanying texts. It includes recordings by renowned interpreters and ensembles, often under the direction of the composer; the carefully edited booklets present the composers and musicologists in analyses of the works and in aesthetic commentaries.
