Das heiße Herz
Lieder cycle for baritone and orchestra
based on poems by Klabund, Clemens Brentano, Heinrich Heine, Peter Härtling and from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn"
Over the years, I have periodically composed a number of (unpublished) lieder, but have only now created my first ‘official’ lieder cycle for Christian Gerhaher and his accompanist Gerold Huber. Unfamiliar poetry from the collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn [The Boy’s Magic Horn] together with poems by Klabund, Brentano and Härtling form an essential element of this work – radically simple and genuine texts, profoundly touching the heart. Jörg Widmann

Description
Jörg Widmann composed his first largescale song cycle, Das heiße Herz, for Christian Gerhaher and his accompanist Gerold Huber in 2013. After a long search for suitable poems, he finally decided on works by Klabund, Brentano, Härtling and Heine: ‘Their radically simple and truthful texts go straight to the heart.’ (Widmann)
For this new orchestral version, the composer has created new tonal colours that add a further level to the profound songs.
