Cosmodromion

Space has played an important role in the work of Christian Jost right from the start. Just as researchers try to explore the infinite expanse of space, he explores again and again new spheres of sound, of orchestration, of musical structure. The composer, whose earliest dream was to be an astronaut, has dedicated several works to the concept of 'space': 'It is black, icecold and infinitely vast. Time as we understand it does not exist, or perhaps only in the parallelism of past, present and future. A mystical something, a huge darkness, combining both the beginning and the end of life. Space is vision. It is dream and it is reality. Space is everything and thus provides a projection surface of utopian power which led me to the creation of such works as Odyssée surréale, one small step, Phoenix resurrexit (see page 13), Cosmodromion, and Astralis.'
