Description
Nikolai Kapustin’s third piano concerto of six will finally premiere more than 30 years after its composition. Adding saxophones and a rhythm section of guitars, bass and jazz percussion to classical orchestral forces, the composer creates a perfect blend of classical concerto style and jazz music. The outer movements are characterised by vigorous, kinetic passages and a virtuoso, non-stop piano part. The slow swing of the Larghetto is offset by its sophisticated, semi-improvisatory passages.
