When Kent Nagano told the composer Jörg Widmann about his idea of presenting the original programme marking the establishment of the Musikalische Akademie of the Bayerische Staatsorchester (December 1811) in a concert in 2011, but with the inclusion of a new contemporary commission, Widmann responded enthusiastically.
The occasion gave him the opportunity to express his affinity with Kent Nagano and the orchestra of the Bayerische Staatsoper and he composed a Bayerisch-babylonischer Marsch, an extremely fast and virtuosic piece in which a variety of superimposed and contradictory dance forms become unified in a boisterous frolic.
