Beschreibung
Originally planned as a work about bees, inspired by Virgil's Georgics, buzzing (heard in the opening brass) became cosmic particles and Orpheus’ Comet was born.
The signature melody of Euroradio, the opening of Monteverdi’s opera L'Orfeo, becomes the culmination, which is reached through a series of nebula clusters. First the buzzing horns begin and are answered by low strings, while accents spark throughout the rest of the orchestra. This dialogue continues, until a solemn chorale appears. The chorale is taken up by the strings before being developed and transformed to hypnotic rhythmic loops. A soaring melody in the woodwind hovers above as momentum, underpined by the trombones, builds towards a spectacular finale.
