Description

Gavin Bryars collaborated with Estonian producer, director and playwright Peeter Jalakas to write To Define Happiness. The idea grew out of a workshop at the Von Krahl Academy in Tallinn, Estonia on the theme of cosmology. The work is inspired by physicist and philosopher Stephen Hawking’s book A Brief History of Time, and encompasses multiple art forms including music, theatre, dance, sculpture, film, light and environmental art. The work questions some of the fundamental questions of life: what do we know about the universe, and how do we know it? Where did the universe come from, and where is it going? What is our place in it?
