Sheva

Sheva (seven, in Hebrew) is dedicated to the seven players of the Ensemble ascolta, and the group of seven composers who participated in “The Dialogue Experiment”. These were seven of Chaya Czernowin’s oldest students. Sheva was Czernowin’s contribution to “The Dialogue Experiment”, a collaborative piece she wrote with these former students where every composer had also an individual piece.

‘In this piece fragile lines connect very differing instances of “sound clumps”. This is done in the same way in which the interstitial materials connect our individual pieces in the large collaborative piece, “The Dialogue Experiment”. Further, I dedicated some of the sound clusters as a small homage to the musical voices of the other participating composers. Each composer has a few sound clumps dedicated to him / her. In this way, Sheva is a bit of a reflection on the whole ”Dialogue Experiment”.’ (Chaya Czernowin)
