At the age of six, Ryo Kunihiko began studying classical piano under Professor Takizaki Sizuyoko of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
He began working as a keyboardist, composer and sound producer during his attendance at Nippon Medical School. After he worked as an anaesthetist for a year, he restarted the music composition.
He started his career as a solo artist and began to compose film music after he performed, composed, arranged and produced with many pop artists in Japan and other countries.
His best-known works are the soundtracks to the films Thunderbolt, starring Jackie Chan, NHK TV animation The Twelve Kingdoms, Sainokoku Monogatari, and Emma (Japan).
Yang Bang Ean (Ryo Kunihiko), is involved in a wide range of musical activities, including genres from classical to rock and world music; his documentary produced by MBC, a major South Korean television and radio network, was shown nationally on television, and the song Frontier, included on his 4th album, was appointed as the official music of the Busan Asian Games in 2002.
He also actively maintains his work and reputation in his mother country; the song Echoes, included on his 5th album, was chosen as the CM music of Samsung.
His works include not only solo albums but recordings of original soundtracks on TV documentaries and on-line games, and also original soundtracks with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked in Korea, Japan, China and other countries as a film composer. His credits include A Thousand Cranes (Korea), the 100th work by director Lim Kwon Taek, who won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival; animation Yobi, The Five Tailed Fox (Korea), directed by Lee Sung Kang, who won Grand Prix at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival; and large-scale MMORPG game AION (Korea) of NCsoft which is the most famous game for ‘Lineage’ in Korea.
