À propos de Benjamin Scheuer

Benjamin Scheuer’s music is all about directly tangible sensuality and humour. The joy in music-making and the search for unusual sounds are his constant driving force – along the way, chasms may well reveal themselves, but laughter is also welcome. Sounds found in everyday life are presented directly as objects on stage or fed in as recordings: Scheuer’s approach towards ‘live electronics’ always applies here – electronic sounds are always produced with the simplest and cheapest possible means. Because it is not technology, but the human being with his voice, in his individuality and fallibility, that is at the centre of his interest. Benjamin Scheuer studied in Lübeck, Hamburg and Karlsruhe with Dieter Mack, Fredrik Schwenk and Wolfgang Rihm. He completed his doctorate in Freiburg under the supervision of Janina Klassen with a dissertation on the théâtre musical by Georges Aperghis. His compositions are performed every year in various countries and by renowned ensembles. Amongst others, Zeitraum (2012) was performed by 600 players in the Hannover football stadium, and with the Emergency Concerts that have been held since 2012, he and the Orchester im Treppenhaus are making a modest contribution towards saving the world with the music of today.
Benjamin Scheuer has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Composition Prize of the City of Stuttgart, the Busoni Composition Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts and the Schneider-Schott Music Prize of the City of Mainz. As a founding member of the organisation ‘Musicians without Borders’, he regularly travelled to Ecuador to teach music to disadvantaged young people.
