Description
O sing to the Lord was commissioned by Peter Asprey and premiered by the Choir of Holy Sepulchre, London, as the introit for a special service to mark St Cecilia’s Day in 2024. The uplifting text, taken from Psalm 96, has inspired composers across the ages, and this new setting explores a contrapuntal sound where the vocal lines, all derived from the opening melody, are constantly in harmonious dialogue. Within this short piece, the composer aimed to encapsulate the wonder and joy of singing and collective music-making. This introit, or short concert-opener, would suit experienced choirs as part of joyful occasions throughout the year.
