Iconographies: Two Poems of Rowan Williams
Détails du produit
Description
Settings of two poems by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, 'Rublev' ('One day, God walked in') and 'Our Lady of Vladimir' ('To Our Lady'), both inspired by famous Russian icons: The Trinity by Andrei Rublev (c1360–c1430) and Our Lady of Vladimir by an unknown 12th-century artist. Simon Beattie was buoyed on to set these poems to music following a performance of his 'Advent Calendar', which sets another of Williams's poems. The poet was at the performance and was full of praise for the closeness of the musical setting to the feeling of the poem. Thoughtful and always guided by the text, with minimal divisi though some harmonic challenge, the settings are appropriate for intermediate to advanced choirs and would make engaging and thought-provoking anthems or concert pieces.
