Description

before I sleep is part of the audio-visual project ‘Gebrauchsanweisungen’ by the Ensemble ascolta in which the musicians provided certain formal obstructions for the composers. My composition partly could be described as abstract film music with its light and relaxed atmosphere. The ‘soundscape’ of the piece is built around associations connected with sleeping, dreaming and dancing. The compositional backbone consists of a modern interpretation of the well-known omnibus progression, a spiral sequence of chords, and numerous interactions of the musicians in intertwining duets and solo passages.
