Description

Amjad is a reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballets Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty merged into a feverish dream world. Working with choreographer Édouard Lock, Bryars created an extraordinary work which is at once familiar and unfamiliar. Iconic moments from the original scores have been abstracted and transformed, woven into a new palette, dark with the sounds of two violas, cello and piano. Bryars notes: ‘My aim was to find a balance between providing a direct and recognizable reference to the Tchaikovsky source and my own compositional idiom.’
