L’œuvre originale de Larcher pour ténor et piano est étroitement liée au texte composé de courts poèmes et fragments rassemblés par le compositeur. En dépit de son aspect fragmenté, l’ensemble forme un tout cohérent : chaque « chanson » conduit à l’autre par un fil conducteur.
