Description

Commissioned by the Somerset, England based charity, Churchill Music!, The Same Flame was inspired by Pierre de Coubertin’s ideals of Olympism which gave rise to the modern Olympic and Paralympic values: Respect, Excellence, Friendship, Courage, Equality, Determination and Inspiration. These seven values are celebrated in five movements, so four of them had to double up – Friendship with Equality and Courage with Determination. Each movement is scored for slightly different choral forces, so the work is varied. Also individual movements may suit different choirs giving the opportunity for individual performance or collaboration between choirs. All five movements of The Same Flame are published as individual octavos. A complete vocal score is available on request from the publishers.

This movement is essentially a surge of enthusiasm, an outpouring of grateful hyperbole from one who’s inspired towards one who inspires. Though mostly homophonic, this quick-moving movement will offer an element of challenge to a choir – the reward will be an exciting and engaging piece of music.

Contemporary Choral Series
The Boosey & Hawkes Contemporary Choral Series combines music from well-established figures such as James MacMillan, Karl Jenkins, and Einojuhani Rautavaara and the finest emerging choral composers of our time including Thomas Hewitt Jones, Joseph Phibbs, Will Todd and Gareth Treseder.

Diverse in terms of theme and mood, with works suitable for a variety of festive and commemorative occasions, both sacred and secular, this series provides an exciting collection of contemporary works for choirs of all types, voicings and abilities.

Spanning many different styles including the jazz-influenced world of Will Todd’s Jazz Carols and Iain Farrington’s The Blues Service, the tranquil beauty of James MacMillan’s Ave Maris Stella, and the energetic jubilation of Gareth Treseder’s Blessed be that Maid Marie, the series provides a wealth of new music, perfect for choirs looking to expand their horizons and explore new repertoire.
