Description

A brilliant blend of melodic English beat poetry and song! (once again)

Spencer Roberts and Caroline Trettine deliver a rich collection of tracks in which strong lyrics explore love's intricate emotions - requited, unrequited, hopeful, fated - and the wider universe. Spencer creates panoramic orchestral soundscapes, weaving rich colour and wild beauty around Caroline's sweet and haunting vocals. Both performers are true originals, acclaimed for their previous work both independently and with the band's last album, Fifteen, which was described as “an inventive mix of folk, country, rock” by Maverick magazine and earnt them a 4 star review in Rolling Stone magazine. Drawing on their eclectic musical backgrounds – with the 'Blue Aeroplanes' and 'Billy Bragg', The Winnebago Orchestra have created a fresh and surprising album that is beautiful as it is compelling.

A Short History of The Winnebago Orchestra:
The Winnebago Orchestra were formed in 2000 by Spencer Roberts and Andy Davies in England and they perform a singularly eclectic, yet brilliant blend of melodic English beat poetry and song.  After the release of “Fifteen” Andy Davies left the group which now consists of Caroline Trettine and Spencer Roberts with a big little help of friends.

The Winnebago Orchestra still share a love for The Go Betweens, Nick Drake, Love, Fairport Convention, The Faces, The Kinks, The Velvet Underground right through to XTC but this provides but a fraction of a guide to their unique musical appeal.

Sometime in the late 1980’s Andy and Spencer first met as the only Creation, Cherry Red and Postcard Records obsessed teenaged denizens of neighbouring English Black Country towns.  They were both heavily involved in the now legendary world that was the ‘C86’ period, releasing records, writing fanzines and on their way sharing stages with such groups as Primal Scream, The Wolfhounds, James, The Wonderstuff and many more original Indie pop stars of that time.

Spencer also set-up his own record label, which is called Oporto Records. Releasing a set of ep’s as The Winnebago Orchestra and a compilation entitled ‘The Maverick Tendency’ featuring such luminaries as Malcolm Ross of Josef K, Orange Juice and Aztec Camera fame, the one time Lotus Eater Peter Coyle, former Piano Magic collaborator Lightspeed Future Lullaby and many more. Shortly after forming TWO they were joined by acclaimed Singer-Songwriter and former Blue Aeroplanes guitarist Caroline Trettine. Caroline, a former protégé of Billy Bragg, has added an extra dimension to The Winnebago Orchestra.

tuition

The musical world is rich and manifold and our taste and interests reach way beyond jazz. It was a natural idea that led to the decision to open another outlet for timeless music rooted in songs and song writing. Whether it is guitar pop, soul, or folk, it is the quality of the song that matters.
Founded in early 2005, tuition has already received a lot of positive feedback from customers, critics, and the general media. From internationally-known artists like The Go-Betweens or Kevin Ayers to newcomers like Beachfield and Oren Lavie. Our aim is to release albums that will stand the test of time.
