Product Details
Description
Volume VII/2 of Weber’s Complete Works contains all of Carl Maria von Weber’s extant, independent sets of variations for solo piano. Weber’s piano variations were considered by contemporary music critics to be amongst the most successful compositions in this field. A review of the time states: ‘His themes are interesting and idiosyncratically formed. They stand before us with a definite personality, showing us in each variation a new side to their character, a new characteristic situation from their life.’
This complete edition aims to be a reliable basis of scholarly debate as well as for the authentic performance practice of Carl Maria von Weber‘s music. Conforming to the standards of recent historico-critical editions, the textual material will be based on all available authentic sources, accompanied by a detailed documentation of the genesis and a list of variants for each work. The musicological importance of the works will be evaluated by placing them in their historical context, the presentation of their genesis, history and Critical Commentaries.
