Description
As with my other most recent works, Urbanica for orchestra adheres to my concept of the ‘third way’, this is a complex through-composed structure tending towards the form of a dense rhapsodic improvisation and a complex
musical virtuosity hovering between the interface of jazz and contemporary music. The intentionally programmatic title of the composition functions to a certain degree as a window looking out on a musical place of yearning: variations consisting of shimmering rhythmic patterns and compact atmospheres are propelled along into new, constantly changing superimpositions, thereby conjuring an organic, fictive urban image.
