Description

This work was originally conceived as an epilogue for the opera Mayakovsky’s Death centered around the Russian poet’s suicide. Taking this event as a starting point, Schnebel presents a chronological review of the troubled history of mankind. The text collage composed of historical events, epochal terminology and statistical enumerations depicts an apocalyptic sequence of catastrophes, epidemics and crimes which have plagued the global population right down to the present day. Each of the seven sections of the work possesses its own rhythmic structure in which gradually accelerating movement develops into brief, constantly repeated motifs. The live electronics are amplified through four speakers in the auditorium and four additional speakers at the edge of the stage produce numerous tonal spatial effects. Totentanz is still awaiting its staged premiere.

Die Live-Elektronik dient der klanglichen Entfaltung im Raum sowie der Klangumwandlung. Es gibt 4 Lautsprecher(gruppen) im Saal und 4 weitere Lautsprecher am Bühnenrand. Mikrofone sind für den Orchester- sowie für den Chorklang aufzustellen, ebenso für die Gruppen A und B. Spezielle Mikrofone sollten ferner bei S. I, II und III stehen.
