This large-scale work sets a text from the 17th Century English poet and theologian Thomas Traherne’s Centuries of Meditation. The text has an intense spirituality, celebrating the glory of creation and his almost intimate relationship with God. In many ways his work is astonishingly modern with its unwitting ‘Eastern’ sound and feeling. There are seven sections, taking material from the different sections within Traherne’s final chapter, The Fifth Century, with an instrumental prologue and short interludes between. Gavin Bryars
