Description

Bashô Matsuo (1644-1694) was a poet of Japanese traditional poetry, Haiku. He is called Haisei (the master of Haiku) because of his sublimation of the pre-Haiku (Haikai) into artistic poetry. Joji Yuasa has composed many works inspired by Haiku and prose by Bashô, notably A Winter Day – Homage to Bashô (1981), Symphonic Suite “The Narrow Road into the Deep North: Bashô” (1995), Imaginary Landscapes from Bashô (2007).
