Description
The burlesque from the “accompanying music for an abstract puppet theatre” is lively and humorous. Zimmermann composed Das Gelb und das Grün [Yellow and Green] in 1952 for the puppet cabaret performances in the Dusseldorf cabaret theatre Kom(m)ödchen which presented puppet theatre pieces for adults. Fred Schneckenburger who wrote the texts and also created the puppets summarised the plot as follows:
“The green of the meadow has fallen in love with the yellow of the sun and they make love. The cow is however no longer able to graze in the colourless meadow, all women have grey faces and have lost their beauty and the old man is freezing. This triggers off a revolution and, as usual, there is a happy end. The cow genuinely believes in the success of the revolution, the old man warms himself in the sun and the women regain their beauty.”
