The fact that Richard Wagner also wrote numerous occasional poems alongside the librettos for his dramatic-music works has largely been forgotten today. The composer Harald Heilmann, born in 1924, compiled text elements from a variety of Wagner’s poems including ’An Liszt’ [To Liszt], written in 1873, to form a small-scale cantata. This composition displays a moderately modern tonal language and is particularly suitable for school ensembles as an introduction to contemporary string orchestral literature. The soprano part presents an attractive challenge for young singers!
