Description
Since Brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea. The opening line from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 65 not only offers a title for this beautiful work for string quartet and percussion, but each of the four elements - brass, stone, earth and the boundless sea - are also points of reference for its rich and haunting sound world. Premiered by Colin Currie and the Pavel Haas Quartet, the work won the chamber category of the 2009 British Composer Awards.
