Day Signal - Signals from Heaven I - was commissioned by Koinuma Music Co., Ltd. on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Select Live Under the Sky, Jazz Festival. The first performance was given by Les Chevaliers Brass Ensemble conducted by Chikara Imamura at the Select Live Under the Sky '87 in Tokyo on July 25, 1987.

Night Signal - Signals from Heaven II - was commissioned by the Scottish National Orchestra Society Ltd. with a subsidy from the Scottish Arts Council. The first performance was given by the Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Matthias Bamert at Scotland's Contemporary Music Festival, Musica Nova '87 in Glasgow on September 14, 1987.
