Description

Aarre Merikanto (1893-1958) composed his string sextet in 1932 for the competition of Library of Congress, Washington. The work was not accepted because it was sent without the performance material. Merikanto cut out many segments of the work, and only in 1993 composer Paavo Heininen completed it. In three movements the sextet has an undertone of folk music and folk dance. The slow movement is one of the most beautiful lyrical inspirations by Merikanto. Duration: 22'.
