Description

Most composers, when writing for ballet, tend to produce more music than can actually be used by the choreographer.  Writing The Midsummer Marriage I had exactly that experience.  Cuts were essential in the Ritual Dances from Act II.  But I soon came to the conclusion that they were an improvement, tightening up everything considerably.  I have thus approved these cuts in all subsequent performances of the dances, whether in stage productions or in the concert hall.  This published concert version of the Ritual Dances, incorporating the cuts, conforms fully with my intentions.
