Prelude

Composed for Patrick Hemmerlé, this affectionate and quirky prelude forms a tribute to both J S Bach and one of his revered keyboard masterpieces. It consists of a single unbroken span formed in the following sections: Introduction – I – Intermède 1 – II – Intermède 2 – III – Intermède 3 – IV mélange – Epilogue. Sections I to IV contain sub-divisions consisting of short quotatations from Bach's 48, book II, moving across mood and key in rapid succession, recast via the prism of Holloway's harmonic nuance. A characteristic homage by the modern composer to the Baroque genius.
