Description
I embarked on an intensive study of these three invocations of the prayers which are unified in a single work as a musical homage to the unforgettable Mother Teresa. Building up from a slow introduction in the strings, the choir begins gently with the first invocation. A dramatic climax with choir and orchestra leads into the cries of the hungry and tortured in the second invocation which is then followed by the ecstatic invocation of belief and love. The work culminates in a unison choral section followed by an orchestral passage in the final bars which returns to the thematic material of the beginning. Pēteris Vasks
