Portraits of the Country Fiddlers

Nordgren's music has been influenced by a lifelong interest in folk music. Local folk tradition figures prominently in his early output and studies in Japan led to cross­cultural explorations of oriental and western instrumentations. Portraits of Country Fiddlers are five adaptations of Finnish fiddlers' tunes which combine his splendid feeling for string technique with the spirited and witty style of the folk tradition.
