Geboren in Schirgiswalde/Oberlausitz. 1939-1945 Musisches Gymnasium in Frankfurt/Main. 1946-49 Privatstudium bei K. Thomas (Komposition, Dirigieren). 1947-1949 Korrepetitor an der Oper in Frankfurter. 1949-1951 Gesangsstudium an der Landesmusikschule Hannover. 1951-1953 Kapellmeister (Schauspiel) am Landestheater Hannover. 1953-1966 Musiklehrer an der St.-Ursula-Schule in Hannover. 1966-1994 Dozent, 1973 Professor, an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover; daneben Kapellmeister der Landesbühne Hannover und Operndirigent bei "Musik und Theater" in Hannover-Herrenhausen.Chorgründer und -leiter (Probsteichor Hannover, Collegium Cantorum Hannover), Konzerttätigkeit im In- und Ausland als Dirigent, Klavierbegleiter und Cembalist.
