About John Mayer

John Mayer was born in Calcutta and studied Indian classical music there with Sanathan Mukerjee. He the went on to study Western music, both in Calcutta with Phillipe Sandre and in Bombay with Melhi Mehta. After winning a scholarship in Bombay, he came to London and studied both music and philosophy. He became a compositional pupil of Matyas Seiber and did five years research into comparative music and religion in Eastern and Western cultures. He died in 2004.
