About Farzia Fallah
Farzia Fallah, born in Tehran/Iran, in 1980, lives in Cologne as a freelance composer, working internationally with various musicians, ensembles and orchestras.
Having studied engineering at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, she decided to dedicate herself to music. Her piano teacher Farimah Ghavamsadri paved her way towards music, as did Alireza Mashayekhi, who encouraged her to compose. Younghi Pagh-Paan became her next teacher when she moved from Tehran to Bremen to continue her studies. After Pagh-Paan retired, Fallah continued her composition studies with Jörg Birkenkötter and then with Johannes Schöllhorn in Cologne and Freiburg. Both offered her important musical impulses.
Fallah’s oeuvre concentrates on the shaping of sound and time. She devotes intense study to every single instrument and its sonic possibilities, and is parti cularly keen on exchange with the performers. She is active in the independent scene and also cultivates contacts with the contemporary music scene in Iran, where she tries to support the younger generation.
Fallah’s artistic development has been supported by various awards and scholarships.
