My Sinfonia concertante with the tempo indication Adagio funebre molto espressivo is a type of funeral music commemorating the last day of Mozart’s life. I decided to use the exact instrumentation from Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante K. 364. I began the composition with the self-imposed challenge of creating my own compositional architecture superimposed on an already existing framework. Due to the restraints of Mozart’s instrumentation I was able to focus entirely on the construction of my funeral music, in the spirit of the compositional process customary among composers of the 18th century. The title of Christian Jost’s double concerto Mozarts 13097. Tag documents the precise number of days Mozart had lived. Jost’s Sinfonia concertante, headed 'Adagio funebre molto espressivo' is a kind of funeral music on the last day of Mozart's life. The choice of instrumentation is a further reference to the master from Vienna, being exactly that of Mozart's own Sinfonia concertante KV 364.
