Description
Fazıl Say has composed a dramatic wake-up call in the fight to avoid a climate crisis with his seven-movement piano concerto entitled Mother Earth. In the Prelude (I), the solo piano voices this call in the form of a principal theme which runs through the entire work. The movements II, III, V and VI describe nature, its destruction and its destructive force: earthquakes and landslides (II Earth), life in the forest, animal sounds and forest fires (III Forest) and the life-sustaining power of water alongside drought and flooding (V Sea and VI River). In the Interlude (IV) and Postlude (VII), Say incorporates highly symbolic quotations from his work of lamentation for solo piano Black Earth.
