Description

This commission forms the centrepiece of the LSO Discovery Panufnik Composing Project with generous support from the Helen Hamlyn Trust.

To celebrate its 100th birthday, the London Symphony Orchestra commissioned a series of concertos to feature all its principal players. Watkins’ London Concerto has three soloists: the violin forceful, with much double-stopping and brilliant runs; the bassoon lyrical and declamatory over a wide range; the harp decorative in scale and arpeggio patterns but aggressive in chords. The LSO is resident at the City of London’s arts centre, the Barbican.
