Symphonic Fresco for Orchestra

Product Details

Description

In his large-scale ‘symphonic fresco’, Rodion Shchedrin revives the events of the famous Battle of Tannenberg in which a Polish-Lithuanian army inflicted a serious defeat on the Knights of the Teutonic Order. This work marks the 600th anniversary of this historic event in 2010. Shchedrin composed a battaglia, a musical picture of battle scenes: the thunderous sound of battle rising again and again alternates with phases of anticipation and excruciating anxiety until the music culminates in a final hymnic and triumphant fanfare which comes as a relief.
