Description

The Lichtstudie cycle now available is not the sum of its six parts. This was about the creation of one current of light and energy, despite all contrasts; the parts in their original form being broken up into small pieces and, by means of newly composed transitions, put in a new context that has nothing in common with the original chronology of their creation. With every ending, if there ever can be such a thing as an "ending" in art, there is also a new beginning. The reason to start the cycle after a series of expressive extreme pieces (such as my cello concerto) was to look for a different, more objective world of expression as is characterized by the fine arts. The end of the Lichtstudie cycle heralds an orchestral style which I myself do not know yet in which direction it is going to develop. Jörg Widmann, in July 2004
