Description
The Jupiter Hymn comes from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, the fourth movement of the suite The Planets, which the English composer Gustav Holst (1874-1934) wrote between 1914 and 1917. The premiere of The Planets took place in 1918 with Sir Adrian Boult and the Royal Philharmonic Society. The work is one of the most colorful examples of 20th century orchestral literature. The anthem is very suitable as a concert opener; for more solemn occasions, the alternative ending can be used.
