Description
Steven Berkoff transports the Oedipus myth to the violent, run-down, problem ridden East End of London. The story focuses on Eddy who by a grim turn of events fulfils a prophecy to kill his father and marry his mother. Mark-Anthony Turnage’s score mirrors the richness and vitality of the text with infusions of Stravinsky, Britten, Puccini as well as jazz and rock. Commissioned for the Munich Biennale, this work set Turnage on the map, with the many productions that followed establishing his international reputation.
