Description

Written for the 2022 BBC Prom's "Ocean Adventure" family concert, Le Gendre's Dolphin Dance takes listeners on a vivid jounrey to the warm Caribbean sea to spot dolphins and explore how to protect the ocean. The ideas and instrumentation for the work were conceived in close collaboration between conductor Kwamé Ryan and the composer. The ocean is evoked by combining marimba and vibraphone with woodwind and double basses whilst a range of percussion instruments create sounds that symbolise the forest and elements along the seashore. A small ensemble of steel pans represent dolphins and the sea-creatures that call for our attention.
