Nach der Berliner Uraufführung von Cello Concerto Grosso regte die Cellogruppe der Berliner Philharmoniker an, das Werk für die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker umzuarbeiten. Dies habe ich gerne getan, denn die Struktur von Cello Concerto Grosso, in dem eine Gruppe von acht Cellisten und ein Solist mit dem Orchester einen Dialog führen, lässt sich ideal für ein Ensemble adaptieren, das beides – Concertino und Orchester – in sich vereint. Dodici ist jedoch keine bloße Bearbeitung von Cello Concerto Grosso, sondern eine neue Komposition, in der das Material des Ausgangswerks frei verwendet wird. Peter Eötvös

Following the Berlin première of Cello Concerto Grosso, there was great enthusiasm for a reworking of this composition for the 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker. It was a great pleasure for me to fulfil this wish; the structure of Cello Concerto Grosso, in which a group of eight cellists and a soloist conduct a dialogue with the orchestra, can be perfectly adapted for an ensemble which unifies both concertino and orchestra in a single entity. Dodici is however not merely an arrangement of Cello Concerto Grosso, but actually a new composition with free use of the material from the original work. Peter Eötvös
