All his friends have a grandmama who spoils them – but not Andi. So he invents a grandmama who lives in the apple-tree in the backyard. With her he has all the adventures he has dreamt of – until, one day, old Mrs Fink moves into the house next door. She needs his help, and they become friends… Carefully and imaginatively, the children’s opera describes how young Andi assumes responsibility and discovers that wishing and reality sometimes go together perfectly.

Description
In the children’s opera based on the famous book by Mira Lobe and Susi Weigl, Theresita Colloredo and Elisabeth Naske have created a sensitive and imaginative portrait depicting how the main character Andi learns responsibility. During the course of the work, the young boy learns that wishes and reality sometimes overlap in a wonderful fashion, in this case unexpectedly providing him with a grandma he has been yearning for a very long time. Naske charmingly fuses a variety of different musical traditions ranging from classical opera singing and traditional folk elements to rap. The ‘Cooking Hip-Hop’ is accompanied by percussive forces including a meat tenderiser, egg whisk and cheese grater. The modest instrumental forces required makes this work ideal for performances in small theatres and opera studios for audiences aged six years and up.
